Recycling is an important part of waste management in the County. The Solid Waste Division encourages

Recycling is an important part of waste management in the County. The Solid Waste Division encourages residents and businesses to reduce, reuse and recycle waste.  Hundreds of Prince William County community members showed their support for recycling by entering the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (MWCOG) regional America Recycles Day “I Recycle” online pledge contest.

For the ninth time in 10 years, a Prince William County entrant won a “I Recycle” pledge contest prize! County resident and committed recycler Denielle Velasquez won a $300 REI e-gift certificate. She took the pledge online and pledge to” buy more products with recycled content.”  Scott MacDonald, recycling manager in the Solid Waste Division, presented Denielle with the certificate in December in time for holiday shopping.

A Bowie, MD resident won the K-12 student prize, a $300 REI gift card, plus a $500 environmental program grant for their school.  In past years, Hampton Middle School, Patti and Henderson Elementary School, Woodbridge and Nokesville High School students in Prince William County have been recipients of the environmental grant.
